The Lindab Safe® self-sealing spiral sheet metal duct system features fittings with factory-installed, double-lipped, EPDM rubber gaskets. When the fittings are slipped into the spiral duct, the highly durable gaskets form a tight seal against the duct wall, without the need for caulking, taping, or crimping. Fittings can be rotated 360 degrees during installation and still maintain the seal’s integrity, states the company. The line of duct system products includes Lindab Safe Round and Lindab Safe Double Wall, an insulated round duct with an interior retention system that keeps fiberglass out of the airstream and delivers consistent sound attenuation and K-values. The line’s EPDM rubber gaskets conform to ASTM E84-91a and NFPA 90A flame spread and smoke developed ratings of 25/50. The ductwork meets Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) leakage class 3 integrity from -20 to 12 inches water gauge. According to the manufacturer, with the elimination of unsightly duct sealer, the duct is ideal for exposed installations.
