July 27, 2005: Coyne Introduces Essential Workplace Skills Course

CHICAGO - Coyne American Institute, one of the nation's oldest career and technical training schools, has announced the introduction of an Essential Workplace Skills course being offered at Coyne's Chicago West Loop location.

Coyne's Essential Workplace Skills course teaches students basic professional skills to enable them to make the transition from student to professional. According to Coyne, more and more business owners are seeking employees who are not only educated but also have the professional skills required to be successful in a business environment. This program teaches such techniques as managing stress, thinking critically, communication, resolving conflict, giving and receiving constructive criticism, working effectively in teams, and more.

"We listened to the industry, and we added to our technical curriculum to ensure that our students receive well-rounded, real world training," said Dr. William Bell, education director, Coyne American Institute. "The Essential Workplace Skills course is now mandatory in the HVAC, electrical maintenance, and electronic technician programs."

During this three-week course, students give presentations, write research papers, participate in class discussions, and work in teams to understand the professional needs of a business environment. All of these exercises are geared to help prepare students who typically study technical subjects to be successful professionals in business.
