Jan. 12, 2009: NEWS to Host Education, Training Session at AHR Expo

TROY, Mich. - The importance of HVACR training and education will be the topic of discussion at a free educational seminar to be hosted by The NEWS at the 2009 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Exposition (AHR Expo) in Chicago.

“HVACR Training and Education: Important Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” is the title of the session, to be held 8:30-9:30 a.m. on January 27 in room S101b at the McCormick Place, South Hall. Five panelists will be on hand to provide information on the education and training opportunities that are made available through their respective association or organization. Panelists include Mark Lowry, executive vice president, Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES); Gerry Kennedy, COO of Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors-National Association (PHCC) Educational Foundation; Glenn Hourahan, vice president, Research and Technology Division, Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA); Warren Lupson, director of education, Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI); and Rex Boynton, president, North American Technician Excellence (NATE). NEWS senior editor Mark Skaer will be the moderator.

“As a contractor, if you are looking to improve your business, education and training needs to be in the mix,” said Skaer. “For some reason, if you are not offering training or are failing to participate in educational courses, chances are you are losing out to the competition. Remember: Wealth is power. So, if you want to gain a few steps on the competition, find out how education can make it happen.”

A few winners of The NEWS’ 2008 “Best Contractor to Work For” contest are also expected to be on hand to provide their insight on the subject. Each winning contractor is a firm believer in providing education and training for their employees.
