EPA to Address Misconceptions

LAS VEGAS - During the National HVAC Educators and Trainers Conference, scheduled for March 16-19, 2008, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will address misconceptions surrounding regulations within Section 608 of the Clean Air Act of 1990. The regulations cover technician certification, sales of refrigerant, leak repair provisions, refrigerant reclamation requirements, refrigerant recovery equipment requirements, and safe disposal requirements for appliances.

According to HVAC Excellence, HVACR distributors, educators, and trainers are the primary sources for most of the information concerning this act.

Julius Banks, team leader and program manager for the EPA’s National Refrigerant Recycling and Emissions Reduction Program, will present “The Clean Air Act of 1990, Refrigerant Recycling and EPA compliance requirements.” This presentation includes the use and phaseout of HCFCs, required certifications, current regulations, proposed regulation changes, the EPA’s stance on recertification, whether students need to be certified while enrolled in a program, recordkeeping, and more. After the presentation, time will be provided for the audience to ask questions.
