WATERTOWN, Mass. - The New England Fuel Institute (NEFI) announced that it has produced EPA-approved, UV-resistant kerosene decals that are available at a nominal fee to fuel marketers.

As of June 1, 2006, fuel marketers that sell kerosene are required to use sulfur content disclosure labels on their pumps, similar to those already in use on diesel fuel pumps. NEFI said, "If a fuel marketer fails to label their kerosene pumps, or uses incorrect or noncompliant labels, they could face federal fines of up to $32,500 per day per violation."

The decals are 3.75 by 3.25 inches, self-adhesive, and overlaminated for durability, the institute said. Five different labels are available to show the various levels of sulfur content, and also whether the fuel is taxed or nontaxed.

Each label costs $2.50; there is a minimum order of $10, plus a fee for shipping and handling. A guidance document explains the details of the regulation and proper placement of the decals.

To download the order form in pdf format, visit www.nefi.com. To have forms faxed, call 617-924-1000. For more information regarding the labeling requirements, contact the NEFI Legislative & Regulatory Action Center at 617-924-1000.
