Dec. 6, 2004: Johnson Controls To Upgrade City Of Tallahassee Facilities

MILWAUKEE - The city of Tallahassee has awarded Johnson Controls Inc. a $1 million energy performance contract that is projected to reduce annual energy and operational expenditures by more than $200,000 per year over the next 12 years.

Mayor John Marks, City Manager Anita Favors, and members of the city's facilities management and energy services staff worked with Johnson Controls to plan a project that includes improvements to more than 50 of the city's buildings, including C.K. Steele Plaza, the Tallahassee Senior Center, and the Fourth Avenue and Dade Street Neighborhood Community Centers.

According to Johnson Controls, the facility improvements being made as part of this contract entail no cost to the city over the life of the contract. The improvements will instead pay for themselves over time through guaranteed energy and operational savings. This allows the city to upgrade aging infrastructure while maintaining or reducing budget outlays. The project also establishes a long-term plan to implement a comprehensive energy and operational efficiency program, which will enable the city to use future savings to fund additional improvements.

"This is an excellent program that supports the city of Tallahassee's goals of improving public facilities and services while at the same time saving taxpayer dollars," said Marks.

"At Johnson Controls, we help customers such as the city of Tallahassee maximize facility performance," said Jeff Crenshaw, director of public sector business at Johnson Controls. "In this case, the facility improvements provide a win-win for the city. Not only will they help improve comfort, they will save Tallahassee citizens their hard earned money."
