Contractor Purchases Climate Design Systems

METHUEN, Mass. - Merrimack Valley Corp., a 22-year-old heating and cooling company based in Methuen, Mass., purchased Climate Design Systems and is “returning the company to its original community roots.” For more than 50 years, Climate Design Systems was a Haverhill, Mass.-based, family-owned company. In 1996, Service Experts Inc. of Richardson, Texas, purchased the company. To help accommodate new customers, John Dresser, was named CFO.

“With large corporations quickly buying-up local businesses, it’s no surprise so many families are finding themselves dealing with unfamiliar technicians unable to meet their unique needs,” said Leonard “Buddy” Thomas Jr., founder of Merrimack Valley Corp. “Climate Designs has a great reputation, but I suspect many lost confidence in the company when it sold out to a large corporation several years ago. I look forward to restoring old fashioned, community-oriented values complemented by today’s cutting edge technology.”

Combined, the two companies maintain a 75-person staff and a fleet of 50 service vehicles.
