Carrier Corp.: Industrial Chiller

The reintroduced 17DA large-capacity industrial water chiller uses R-134a. The chiller has a capacity performance in the nominal 3,000-, 4,000-, and 5,000-ton range. To match the most economical fuel available, a steam turbine, electric motor, or gas engine drive can be selected, the company says. The compressor design incorporates variable inlet guide vanes and a diffuser ring, which act together to control the flow of refrigerant through the chiller's single-stage, high-efficiency shrouded impeller. According to the manufacturer, this feature delivers optimum performance and efficiency across a wide range of operating conditions without the need for hot gas bypass. Choices in heat exchanger length, size of vessels, tube material and thickness, and pass arrangement are available.
