The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) (Arlington, VA) has announced that Frances Shuping, CAE, staff vice president of communication and technology, has retired from her position with the association. Shuping joined ACCA in 1994 as Director of Membership and was selected to head the communications and technology department in January 2000.

The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association (SMACNA) (Chantilly, VA) recently honored the winners of this year’s apprenticeship contest. Fourth year winners were: first place — Philip R. Kowynia, Plymouth, MI, Local 292; second place — Douglas J. Krejcarek, Oconto Falls, WI, Local 18; third place — Rommel B. Slamat, Waipahu, HA, Local 293. Third year winners were: first place — Brian J. Lindholm, Rochester, WA, Local 66; second place — Jerry E. Taylor, Cincinnati, OH, Local 24; third place — Steven J. Haydu, Lakewood, NJ, Local 27. Second year winners were: first place — Christopher N. Hansen, Dundee, IL, Local 265; second place — Arron C. Garcia, St. Louis, MO, Local 36; third place — Byron J. Cope, Stockton, CA, Local 162.

The California Building Industry Association (CBIA) (Sacramento, CA) has launched a job placement website dedicated exclusively to California’s building industry. Excellence Alliance, Inc. (EAI) (Hebron, KY) and the Trane Worldwide System Group have developed a relationship that will provide EAI members with enhanced benefits on equipment purchases greater than 25 tons. This new agreement, combined with the association’s Trane Unitary agreement, will enable EAI to offer Trane’s complete product line to members and their clients.

The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) (Rockville, MD) announced that its members have achieved a collective Lost Workday Cases Incidence Rate (LWDCIR) that is below the national rate for mechanical and plumbing contractors. The 650 participants in MCAA’s Safety Statistics and Awards Program in 2000 achieved an average LWDCIR of 2.9. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (BLS) LWDCIR for Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) Code 171 is 4.4.

The National Association of Wholesaler-Distributors’ (NAW) Distribution Research and Education Foundation (DREF) (Washington, DC) has released a new book called The Wholesale Distribution Customer Speaks. The book aims to initiate a dialogue with customers offers a strategy the reader to use. Also, the publication reports on the changes in customer knowledge of e-commerce and fee-based services.
