Arizona PHCC Helps Rebuild Community

TUCSON, Ariz. - Representatives of the Arizona Apprenticeship Program-Southern Arizona Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors (PHCC) chapter were involved in "rebuilding" the Corbett neighborhood in Tucson this April. According to the PHCC-National Association, 16 homes will have had major plumbing and HVAC issues resolved.

The project is being completed through a partnership with Rebuilding Togetherâ„¢, a national, nonprofit, volunteer organization whose mission is to preserve and revitalize homes and communities. PHCC explained that it has a partnership with Rebuilding Together to help repair the homes of low-income homeowners around the country.

Chapter apprentices prepared job estimates and supplied lists for the rebuilding day. Approximately 20 apprentices performed the actual work in the homes. Three instructors got "on the roofs and under sinks," the association said. They included Meta Everett, director, George Hoffmeister, fourth-year HVAC instructor, and Rick Myers, third-year plumbing instructor.

Major replacement equipment that was donated included two-speed evaporative coolers from Heating and Cooling Supplies and Naughton's Plumbing, both of Tucson, and a Master Cool Cooler from Sigler & Reeves' Tucson branch.
