Looking for a two-for-one deal? The recently introduced ACH 400 variable-frequency drive (vfd) from ABB Automation Inc., New Berlin, WI, could drive you to savings.

Built into the drive are 10 I/O points, all of which can be monitored and controlled via the serial link. “The drive emulates a ddc system unitary controller,” noted Mike Olson, commercial applications engineer, ABB Automation, Drives & Power Products Group. “It’s a drive and a unitary controller in one box.”

The unit is available in a NEMA 1 enclosure (with a NEMA 12 option) and is offered in two voltage ranges: One operates motors from 3 to 100 hp at 208 to 240 vac, and the other runs motors from 3 to 400 hp at 380 to 480 vac.

The drives are designed for precise operation of single-motor hvac fan and pump applications, and for multiple-motor applications such as multi-cell cooling towers, paralleled chilled water, and booster pump systems.
