Maxitrol Regulator Contest Announced
“We think the 65 years & Still Regulating Contest is going to be fun but also very interesting,” said Rick Bargert, Maxitrol’s vice president of marketing and communications. “There are a lot of plumbers out there who will be curious to find out just how old the winning Maxitrol regulator will be.”
Founder Frank Kern Jr. purchased Maxitrol Co. in 1946. At that time the company produced a line of gas pressure regulators, a model airplane engine, and serviced the local auto industry. The popularity of model airplanes declined after the war, and the company’s primary focus quickly shifted to regulator development and production.
In 1948, Maxitrol Co. was awarded a patent for its innovative Straight-Thru-Flow (STF) regulator design. The STF was the first significant pressure regulator design change in more than a century and became the technological foundation for the company’s growing business.
