Members
of the Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors used the event to lobby for the
repeal of the estate tax, more workable regulations and better guidelines for federal
weatherization programs.
“Heating and cooling is the
single biggest energy consumer in a home, and accounts for about 40 percent of
all the energy used by homeowners,” said Stephen Yurek, president and CEO of
the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute.
Discussions
dealing with carbon monoxide safety, refrigerants and training are among the
topics slated for the Nov.
14-17 meeting at the Wild Dunes Resort in Isle of Palms, S.C.
The
industry lost 2,000 jobs last month, 3,000 in March and 1,000 in February. But
it has added an estimated 63,000 jobs during the last year, the General
Contractors of America said.
