China's Beijing Daxing Airport Set to Utilize VTS Air Curtains and Heating Units

Located less than 50 km south of the capital of China, Beijing Daxing Airport is set to become world’s biggest airport. Officials say that this new transport hub will cost around $12 billion. The new airport will act as a second international airport to relieve pressure from Beijing’s Capital International Airport, which is currently overloaded. With the opening currently planned for Sept. 30, the airport will have the capacity to handle 45 million passengers annually by 2021, and an anticipated 72 million by 2025.

In contrast to already functioning airports, the Daxing airport will be shaped like a spreading flower, where the central hub will be used for passenger processing, ticketing, and security. Five of the petals will lead to gates, and administrative offices will be located in a sixth petal. By using distributed zones of operation, the airport is set up so that passengers will arrive at the carousel in less than 13 minutes after a flight’s arrival.

With a futuristic design, the new Beijing airport aims to deliver the highest-quality and most developed technologies. For example, robots will perform the most important tasks, such as executing automated security checks by serving as patrol inspectors. These robot inspectors can guarantee the airport’s higher requirements for power supply security in approximately 1-2 minutes, and the data recording and analysis can be completed simultaneously. It can improve the intelligent management level of airport substations.

Chinese airports have been known to be stuffy and poorly ventilated in the past. However, Daxing Airport is proving that stereotype wrong. Ventilation systems featured in the airport’s air conditioning units are supported by an efficient set of air heaters and air curtains to ensure comfort and pleasure.

With unpredictable and quickly changing weather caused by the high amplitude of temperature and the infamous Beijing smog, designers of Daxing Airport have decided to utilize air curtains to maintain a comfortable indoor environment. By using the airstream air curtains, one can prevent insects and impure air from mixing with the inside air of the premises, keeping the chilled air inside at its utmost purity. Having high expectations, designers decided to establish cooperation with VTS Group. A total of 298 sets of VTS’ WING air curtains were chosen for this project.

Following WING air curtains, 162 sets of VTS’ VOLCANO air heaters were chosen to control temperature parameters inside the buildings. Both devices, thanks to their unique and modern design, fit perfectly with the decor and complement the overall aesthetic of the airport.

Of all devices available on the market, only WING and VOLCANO were able to meet the high technical requirements in addition to the 24/7 run time. They are equipped with electronically commutated (EC) motors that reduce energy costs.

EC motors made a big difference between VTS’s products and other market players. But the most important attribute that distinguishes them from others was their equipment’s ability to cooperate with a BMS to control and monitor devices.

Thanks to their BMS integration capabilities, all the VOLCANO air heaters and the WING air curtains can be programmed from one place, making it quick and easy to view real-time conditions and adjust parameters accordingly.
