Silent Knight schedules 2014 fire alarm training courses

Industry News
December 19, 2013

Silent Knight by Honeywell has posted its training schedule for the first half of 2014, which includes a fire alarm introductory course and an advanced technical course to take place in nearly 20 U.S. states. According to the company, both courses offer participants continuing education units. The curriculum has been expanded to cover applications of Silent Knight’s multi-criteria fire and carbon monoxide detector, and its emergency voice system.

“More and more interest is being shown around the fire/CO detector and given the new CO codes, we thought it necessary to expand upon how to program it for use in a multitude of applications,” explained Shawn Burke, training director for Silent Knight.

The company cited recent reports that estimate the global mass notification market will grow from $2.41 billion in 2013 to $6.41 billion in 2018. The recent proliferation of market research on mass notification systems (MNS) mixed with rising demand for MNS across a variety of markets is the reason for the new Silent Knight courses.

“It’s not just schools and the military looking for MNS. Now theatres, shopping malls, churches, and office buildings realize they need a means for communicating with people in and around their buildings in an emergency,” said Burke. “Silent Knight’s EVS is the only non-proprietary system that’s both a fire alarm and mass notification system in one box. Dealers see it as a great opportunity to step into the MNS market.”

A demonstration of the IFP-5820XL-EVS and hands-on programming exercises are now covered in the Silent Knight Tech Ed course. For those not able to attend a hands-on training course, Silent Knight offers a series of online trainings that cover conventional and addressable fire alarm systems to fire fighter telephones and IP communications.

Full Silent Knight course descriptions and its 2014 training schedule of dates and locations are available on www.silentknight.com.
