Building Innovation speakers to tackle latest building science topics

Industry News
December 6, 2013

The National Institute of Building Sciences has scheduled a variety of keynote speakers for its upcoming conference. The Building Innovation 2014 Conference will come to the Washington Marriott Wardman Park in Washington, D.C., January 6-10.

On Monday, January 6, Michael Feldman, deputy executive director of the Los Angeles World Airports will talk about facility management and the building life cycle in that particular environment during his presentation, “Implementing Facility and Asset Management at Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA).” The presentation is sponsored by the National Insulation Association.

On Tuesday, January 7, during the FEDCon® lunch sponsored by Lehigh Hansen, Dennis Milsten, the associate executive director of the Office of Programs and Plans for the Office of Construction & Facilities Management at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA); and Philip Matkovsky, the assistant deputy under secretary for Health for Administrative Operations at the Veterans Health Administration, will provide an inside look at life cycle facility management at VA.

On Wednesday, January 8, during the Beyond Green™ Awards luncheon sponsored by Virginia Tech, the winners of the Beyond Green™ High-Performance Building Awards will accept their plaques, present their award-winning projects, and have an opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities they faced while delivering high-performance buildings.

On Thursday, January 9, Bob Prieto, senior vice president at Fluor, and author and inventor, will explain how the capital asset industry is being driven to new performance regimes by growing complexities, a focus on sustainability, longer asset lifetimes, uncertain futures, and emerging resiliency requirements during his presentation, “Life-Cycle Analysis – A 7D Future,” sponsored by Acuity Brands.

On Friday, January 10, Brion Callori, senior vice president of engineering and research at FM Global, will discuss building information modeling, codes, and technology during “Building Innovation = Insurance Evolved.”

The keynotes will occur in tangent with a host of workshops and council and committee meetings during the week, as well as ten educational symposia.

Attendees may elect to attend the full conference, individual committee meetings, or just the keynote lunches. For more information, visit www.nibs.org/conference2014.
