Flexible HVAC ductwork was first patented in 1965; however, the underlying technology has been used for more than 150 years in the form of flexible air hoses for connecting train cars, flexible metal elbows on flu vent connectors and more.

It took time for the HVAC industry to hone production techniques for a pre-insulated flexible duct fit for moving conditioned air. Over 60 years ago, John P. Lamborn Sr. (Jack) began his entrepreneurial journey in the flexible duct business. His hard work, leadership, and vision produced countless contributions to the flex duct industry.

Jack Lamborn founded JP Lamborn Co (JPL) and opened its first flexible ductwork manufacturing plant in Fresno, California, in 1961.

As flexible air ducts became more popular, JPL began to grow. Today, the company operates four state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in California, Colorado, Florida, and Tennessee. The four facilities are positioned strategically across the U.S. to service its growing network of HVAC distributors.

Jack’s son John Lamborn served as the president of JPL for five decades, from the 1970s until 2020. John led JPL’s initial growth and expansion plans in the late 1990s. In 2020, John’s son Jason (third generation) became president and is the company’s key decision maker. Under Jason’s leadership, JPL has maintained its solid reputation in the HVAC industry for producing top-quality products.

“JPL’s success and growth have been built on a solid history of providing quality, integrity, competitive pricing, and innovation,” Jason said. “The values and strong industry reputation that JP Lamborn Company (JPL) started with back in 1961 still hold true today.”

Not only has JPL grown, but the entire flex duct industry has seen many changes and innovations. JPL was among the original founding members of the Flexible Air Duct Trade Association, the Air Duct Council (ADC). The ADC has launched its sixth edition of Flexible Duct Performance & Installation Standards.

This publication, also known as “The Green Book,” gives installers specific guidelines for properly installing flex ducts. JPL stands by the high quality of its flex duct, with a 10-year limited warranty, Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing, and Greenguard Gold Certification.

JPL manufactures 14 different diameters of flexible air ducts but ultimately offers customers over 400 SKUs that include other performance specifications, vapor barriers, R-values, lengths and packaging types. JPL has built value into its products through several proprietary manufacturing techniques, known as “The JPL Advantage.”

HVAC distributors and contractors across the U.S. proudly sell and install JPL flex ducts, knowing they can trust and depend on the quality and value of JPL. As JPL’s journey and growth in the flexible air duct business continues, Jack Lamborn’s legacy and culture left behind will never be forgotten.
