Glacier Pool Coolers Supplies Pool Chiller for Olympic Games

For this year’s scorching hot Summer Olympics in Japan, thousands of athletes gathered from around the world in a display of sporting brilliance. In addition to the fierce competition, Olympians had to navigate extreme heat throughout the Games. The U.S. Olympic Committee decided to get ahead of the humid weather in Japan and ensure swimmers had the best conditions for training.

Glacier Pool Coolers’ GPC280 Model was used in the U.S. National Team’s 50-meter private pool facility where the Team USA’s Olympic and Paralympic swim teams practiced between events. This pool chiller, which was designed for pools with up to 450,000 gallons of water, was made to combat extreme summer heat.

A pool cooling system is essential for swim competitions in warm weather– particularly in a humid climate like Japan. Pools that are too warm require more effort from the athlete to swim in due to excess sweating. Keeping the pool at an optimal temperature allows for peak performance and training. The Glacier Pool Coolers’ pool chiller brought the water temperature from 86 degrees Fahrenheit to 77 degrees Fahrenheit at the training facility.

Typically, heat pump chillers are used to maintain or regulate water temperature. However, these come with substantial running costs and energy demands. Glacier Pool Coolers’ patented system uses no Freon, heat exchange or gas, but rather an electric fan, which helps reduce the cost of operating the pool.

Both residential and commercial pool owners can install a Glacier Pool Cooler to ensure a refreshing dip and reduce operating costs. Our company manufactures an entire line of systems to cool water in pools, fish hatcheries, sea life exhibits, hydro farms and stocked lakes globally and are readily available through the largest swimming pool equipment distributors and retailers worldwide.

While currently located in Scottsdale, Arizona, Glacier Pool Coolers is a Texas-born company. All research and development were carried out in Texas, with continued testing conducted in all climates from the desert southwest, to the Florida Keys. It allowed the company to manufacture pool chilling systems that are designed for some of the hottest and muggiest climates in the world. The business was founded in 2004 and has gone on to develop numerous pool-chilling systems for both commercial and residential clients all over the globe.
