Fabtech changes opening keynote presentation format

Fabtech organizers are copying the popular “TED Talks” format for this month’s conference.

Show officials are calling their version “FABx Tech Talks” and all six talks will take place Nov. 6 on the opening day of the four-day event at Chicago’s McCormick Place.

The short presentations aim to give a peek into the future of manufacturing and what’s necessary to stay competitive, organizers said.

Jesse James, founder of West Coast Choppers, and Albert Paley, a sculpture artist at Paley Studios, will take the stage first to discuss their collaborations using metal. Other presenters include Michael Walton, an executive at Microsoft; and Karen Kerr, executive manager director at GE Ventures; and Shinola President Jacques Panis. Adam Genei, founder of Mobsteel, will discuss the value of making things with your hands.

“We are very excited to have these top innovators provide their expert insight via this new and engaging forum for the opening keynote,” said John Catalano, a Fabtech show manager and SME senior director. “The FABx talks add a motivational element to our already impressive presentation lineup, and introduce emerging topics and trends that are central themes throughout Fabtech, from the show floor to the education program.”
