Subcontractor recognized for lean construction work in New Jersey

March 6, 2017

Armistead Mechanical Inc., a mechanical construction and engineering services contractor in New Jersey and New York, was part of a team recognized by the New Jersey Subcontractors Association for its work on the Celgene Building L office and parking structure in Summit, New Jersey.

Armistead Mechanical was a subcontractor of the design-build team put together by Turner Construction in conjunction with architecture firm Highland Associates and civil engineering firm Langan Engineering & Environmental Services.

The six-story building is designed to meet silver-level specifications under the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design program, holds 950 employees and features open-plan offices and workspaces, enclosed private offices, conferencing, a 175-seat cafeteria and a pedestrian bridge.

Officials at Armistead Mechanical said they used lean construction techniques like paperless submittal exchanges, process mapping and pre-fabrication to save time without sacrificing quality. Employees at biopharmaceutical company Celgene Corp. were able to move into the new building 18 months after breaking ground.

“We were so pleased to participate in this exciting, award-winning project,” said Kevin Armistead, chief operating officer at Armistead Mechanical. “The project team’s recognition by the NJSA affirms Armistead Mechanical’s track record of success in upholding high standards of mechanical contracting services.”
