Wholesalers win thermostat recycling contest
Johnson Supply, Gustave A. Larson Co. and Johnstone Supply are the top winners in Thermostat Recycling Corp.’s annual competition to encourage reclamation of mercury-containing thermostats.
Johnson Supply won for highest participation rate, Gustave A. Larson for highest average thermostat return per branch and Johnstone Supply for most mercury recycled during the campaign, which ran from May to October.
The winners were announced earlier this month at the Heating, Air-conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International’s annual conference in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
“Congratulations to the 2016 BMOP winners and thank you to all participants. It has been great to see so many HARDI companies interested in promoting mercury thermostat recycling in the spirit of competition and as stewards of the environment,” said Ryan Kiscaden, executive director of Thermostat Recycling Corp., which runs the annual contest.
Also earning awards were three branches that recycled the most thermostats on an individual basis: Johnstone Supply in Golden Valley, Minnesota; Auer Steel of Milwaukee; and Johnstone Supply in Bloomington, Minnesota.
