Greenbuild brings several celebrities to Washington

February 5, 2016

With an appearance by one of the hosts of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” an Oscar-winning director, 548 exhibitors and thousands of hours of continuing-education credits earned by attendees, organizers say last year’s Greenbuild was a great event.

The annual sustainable construction trade show took place Nov. 18-20, 2015, at the Washington, D.C., Convention Center. Official attendance was 19,058, an increase from the 17,507 who attended the 2014 show in New Orleans. Attendees had 548 exhibitors to see at the trade show, which took up 144,300 square feet of floor space.

Kate Hurst, vice president of community, conferences and events at the U.S. Green Building Council, which created the show, said this year’s show continued Greenbuild’s tradition of top-notch training opportunities and products.

“Every year, Greenbuild brings world-class education and programming to the green building community and continues to maintain the standards that make Greenbuild the most sustainable building conference in the world,” Hurst said. “From impactful education sessions to dynamic speakers and engaging summits, this year’s show represented all facets of green building for the nearly 20,000 attendees.”

There were more than 200 educational sessions available to attendees at Greenbuild, which many took advantage of, organizers added. They said there were 34,494 hours of continuing-education credits earned during the show.

“In true Greenbuild fashion, sustainability remained at the forefront of this year’s event, and we hope each participant walked away with fresh motivation, inspiration and the most cutting-edge knowledge in the market,” said Lindsay Roberts, Greenbuild show director. “From an increase in participation of our exhibitor greening guidelines to an increase in attendance to notable sustainability benchmarks, Greenbuild was a success and we continue to be grateful to the community for driving the green building movement forward.”

Among the highlights was a joint appearance by James Cameron, director of “Titanic,” “Terminator” and “Avatar”; and Mika Brzezinski, co-host of “Morning Joe.” The two talked about climate change.

The next Greenbuild is scheduled for Oct. 5-7 in Los Angeles.
