ABB to expand Memphis, Tenn., facility
HVAC market drives maker ABB said Tuesday it would spend $30 million to erect a new 120,000-square-foot manufacturing center for low-voltage products in Memphis, Tenn.
The investment will create 200 jobs and add a hundred more within five years, officials said.
ABB’s $3.9 billion purchase of electrical HVAC construction components manufacturer Thomas & Betts in 2012 spurred the expansion, officials added.
“We have successfully integrated two organizations now, building on the distribution and marketing strengths of Thomas & Betts and the technology heritage of ABB,” said Brian Herrington, head of the low-voltage products division for the Americas. “We grew our electrical business by more than 8 percent in 2014, in the United States. This investment supports the increasing demand for the ABB portfolio. The combination of ABB and Thomas & Betts really is more than the sum of the two parts. We have exciting growth plans and intend to ensure that we build on our reputation as the supplier of choice in this market.”
