GSA study focuses on green HVAC chiller technology
A recent study from the U.S. General Services Administration showed the benefits of using a chiller with Danfoss Turbocor green HVAC technology.
The GSA swapped one of two 150-ton rotary screw chillers at the George Howard Jr. Federal Building and courthouse in Pine Bluff, Ark., with a 150-ton chiller using two magnetic levitation technologies from Danfoss Turbocor. The Pacific Northwest National Laboratory of the chillers for six months to report on potential energy savings offered by the green HVAC market technology.
The lab said the variable-speed, oil-free centrifugal compressor used 42 percent less energy. The variable-speed drive allows the chiller to work better with lower and partial cooling loads, the study said.
