Trade school offers HVAC scholarship

June 4, 2013

A Chicago nonprofit is offering a $10,000 scholarship to one student enrolled in the HVAC or electrical program at vocational school Coyne College.

The scholarship is funded by Fathers for the Future, a charity that helps underprivileged young men between the ages of 18 and 30 and their families.

Coyne was the right school to partner with for the scholarship program, said J. Michael Carr, the founder and president of Fathers for the Future.

“Coyne College ranked highest among the schools we researched in terms of legacy and the ability to place students into jobs after graduation,” Carr said.  “We believe education is essential to helping a young man find employment in the skilled labor field, but we also realize that extra help is needed in finding that first job.  Coyne College has a proven record in both areas.”

Applicants must meet age and income criteria as well as being actively enrolled at the school. The $10,000 scholarship is provided by Goodcity, a Chicago religious organization.

Coyne College President Russell Freeman said he was honored by the school’s vote of confidence from Fathers for the Future.

“We are pleased that Fathers for the Future recognizes Coyne College’s strengths and has chosen us for its new scholarship,” Freeman said. “Our faculty and administrators work regularly with industry professionals, practitioners and affiliated partners to chart improvements in the college’s training programs.  Our career center is top-notch, assisting both recent graduates and alumni who are between jobs.”
