SMACNA urges Congress to extend tax incentives
The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association is advising Congress to extend expired and expiring tax incentives during the post-election session in 2012. SMACNA says is it especially concerned with energy efficiency tax incentives vital to construction activity.
In letters sent to both the U.S. House and Senate, the association claimed that a lack of congressional action on tax incentives would be harmful to the economy, and would weaken business development and job creation.
According to SMACNA, legislators in Washington have delayed making decisions on tax proposals.
The letter sent to Congress said, “While we are hopeful that the tax reform debate results in policy that is fair, efficient, and encourages economic growth, it is also critical that the current tax system provide certainty in the interim. Additional political and policy uncertainty is not a recipe for improving confidence in this economy for consumers, businesses, and their prospective clients. Surely on that point all sides can agree.”
