ASHRAE offering 14 new online courses

February 24, 2010

ASHRAE has scheduled 14 online courses that will begin in March and run through May. One of the courses will deal with ASHRAE’s latest standard, “Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings.”

According to the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, the course will be available on March 15, and will discuss the requirements of the new standard. Key topics of the standard include site sustainability, water use efficiency, energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality and the building’s impact on the atmosphere, materials and resources, and also construction practices and plans for operation of the building after occupancy.

“The course has evolved as the standard has taken shape, and I anticipate that the course will continue to evolve as changes and addenda are approved, resulting from changes in concepts, technologies and design for green buildings” said Tom Lawrence, member of the committee that developed the standard. “Standard 189.1 has the potential to be a game changer in the industry and thus anyone who is working with green design would benefit from learning more about the standard. One way to do that is by taking this course.”

The other 13 online, instructor-led seminars will cover various topics, including humidity controls, commissioning, cleanrooms, and energy management. There are several other courses that are designed to understand other current ASHRAE standards.
