Proposes addendums for standard 90.1, which defines minimum requirements for the energy-efficient design of most buildings, would deal with lighting power densities and compliance methods. It would reduce power allowances in many buildings while keeping lighting levels the same.
“This will encourage designers to use more efficient lighting technology applications that provide more light without using more energy, which will require more thought at the design phase,” said Eric Richman, chairman of the 90.1 lighting subcommittee. “Additional proposed day lighting control requirements will also encourage them to incorporate effective day lighting and corresponding electric lighting control into their designs.”
