MSCA program features commissioning, energy audits

Utility bill analysis, energy audits and retro commissioning will be the main topics of an Aug. 24-26 Mechanical Service Contractors Association event in Kansas City, Mo.
The MSCA is to present three, one-day seminars to provide skills needed to save customers money by enhancing building system performance and energy efficiency.
The association says a majority of existing U.S. buildings operate at well below optimal efficiency when it comes to energy use. MSCA says it believes that mechanical service contractors are in a position to help correct this problem by performing utility bill analysis, energy audit techniques and retro-commissioning procedures for their customer’s mechanical systems.
Utility bill analysis will be the topic on the conference’s first day. Topics to be covered included units of energy, electrical and natural gas tariffs, and historical electrical billing.
On day two, energy audits will be the focus. This includes data collection, building evaluation, utility and mechanical evaluation, operational and maintenance development, and energy conservation measures.
The last day of the event will deal with retro commissioning and discussed development of building operation plans, equipment evaluation and the execution of retro-commissioning plans.
