The Air Conditioning Contractors of America has signed a
letter opposing the health care insurance bills now working through Congress.
The letter, which was drafted by the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, has been co-signed by more than 3,100 state and local associations, and
small-business organizations. It says that while small-business groups such as
the ACCA support improving the health care system as well as lowering costs, the bills
proposed so far do little to contain costs or expand coverage. The U.S. chamber says
businesses especially oppose the employer mandates and government-run insurance
plans contained in some of the bills.
“It is critically important for ACCA to continue to voice its opinions about
health care reform on behalf of its members,” said ACCA President and CEO Paul
Stalknecht. “We threw our weight behind this U.S. Chamber of Commerce effort to
ensure that legislators in Washington are hearing the concerns of small
businesses across the nation. We encourage our members to continue to stay
apprised and involved in the evolving health care debate, and especially to
make time to communicate with their elected officials.”
A copy of the letter has been sent to
all House
and Senate members. The
