Metalform Mexico will take place as planned, organizers announced.

Metalform Mexico will take place June 2-4 in Monterrey as scheduled, organizers announced Friday.

Word from sponsors of the welding expo comes as the Mexican government lifts most of the restrictions on businesses imposed in the wake of the 2,100 cases and 56 deaths from the H1N1 virus, commonly called swine flu.

Many businesses in and around Mexico City were closed in early May as the health officials tried to stop the flu’s spread. Most businesses have since reopened.

“Mexico is open for business and the daily routine is returning to normal,” said Chuck Cross, show manager for the event, which is sponsored by the Precision Metalforming Association, the American Welding Society, the Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. “Our event has a $10 million (U.S.) economic impact on this region. The Mexican government, as well as the business community, has given us their unqualified support. Their representatives have stated that they will work in conjunction with our associations and the media to ensure a successful event.”
