Atlas Heating and Cooling helped rebuild San Francisco in the years following the 1906 earthquake.

Atlas Heating and Cooling is old enough to have helped rebuild San Francisco in the years following the 1906 earthquake.

The Oakland, Calif., company – one of the oldest HVAC businesses in the San Francisco Bay area -- is marking its 100th anniversary this year.

The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s Bay Area chapter, of which Atlas is a charter member, is congratulating them on the milestone.

“Since 1977, when SMACNA was in its infancy, Atlas has always played an active role in our Bay area and national organizations," said Gary Schwenk, executive vice president of Bay Area SMACNA. “Atlas is one of California's oldest and most respected heating and air conditioning companies. It's a family-run business and the whole family has participated in SMACNA initiatives. They have been a stellar member of this organization, a mentor and role model for many.”

Three generations of the Tuck family have guided Atlas from a maker and installer of wood and coal furnaces to a modern HVAC company whose work has been seen in the San Francisco Civic Auditorium and the University of California.
