Coalition works to promote codes, public safety
Associations involved in building safety and code issues are starting a campaign to raise the public profile of their work.
Betting that many people have little knowledge or understanding of the importance of building codes, the “Raise the profile” campaign will attempt to education politicians, industry and the public about the ways modern codes and their enforcement has saved countless lives.
Member groups including the Institute for Business & Home Safety, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the International Association of Fire Chiefs, the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials, and the International Code Council.
The associations say that despite the increases in building and public safety that codes have brought, in too many places worldwide, enforcement is still substandard. The coalition hopes to use public education to change that.
