The. U.S. House of Representatives recently approved legislation that extends the tax deduction for energy-efficient commercial buildings for another six years.

The bill containing the $1.80 per-square-foot write-off was passed 241-172 as part of Congress’ bills dealing with federal energy policy.

The Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association was among the groups urging its passage.

The House bill must now be reconciled with the Senate’s version, which does not contain the tax deduction, even though a Senate committee approved an even-higher amount.

SMACNA officials say they are working with other allies to ensure any final bill includes the tax deductions.
