New York Times columnist to speak at forum

May 9, 2008

Pulitzer Prize winner and New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman will be the keynote speaker at the 19th annual Energy Efficiency Forum, June 10-11 in Washington, D.C.

Every year, the event brings about 300 decision makers and business leaders. Past speakers have included President George W. Bush and New York Sen. Hillary Clinton.

“For 19 years, the Energy Efficiency Forum has delivered an exciting platform for discussion between public and private sector leaders who are focused on making energy efficiency a priority for our nation and our world,” said Barry Worthington, executive director of United States Energy Association and co-chairman of the event. “Our list of confirmed and invited speakers and the excitement of having the presidential election around the corner will make this one of the liveliest events we’ve ever held.”

HVAC equipment company Johnson Controls is co-hosting the event.

Friedman is expected to preview is upcoming book, Hot, Flat and Crowded, a follow-up to his best seller, The World is Flat. He will discuss world energy policy and talk to Robert K. Watson, founder of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building-rating system, and David B. Goldstein, co-director of the Natural Resources Defense Council’s energy program.
