USGBC aids global green HVAC effort

Snips default todaysnews
February 2, 2015

The U.S. Green Building Council has joined the Global Energy Efficiency Accelerator Platform, an initiative of U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki Moon’s “Sustainable energy for all” program.

The platform’s goal is to double the global energy-efficiency improvement rate by 2030. This includes building that promotes green HVAC and zero energy building.

“The accelerator platform is driving real change through its dynamic public-private partnership approach,” said USGBC President Roger Platt. “Globally, buildings account for about one-third of energy use and energy-related greenhouse gas emissions. With green, energy-efficient buildings and green-building programs like LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), we can achieve 25 to 50 percent reductions in energy, which also helps mitigate climate change, save money, create jobs and improve the health and environment in communities.”

The Business Council for Sustainable Energy has also joined the program.

Kandeh Yumkella, A U.N. special representative for the program, welcomed the additions.

“We are extremely pleased that USGBC and BCSE are joining this global effort to support and catalyze energy efficiency around the world,” Yumkella said. “These organizations bring with them tremendous knowledge, expertise and capacity, which will help us achieve our ambitious goals.”
