Spiral duct manufacturer introduces calculator app
A new equivalent round duct calculator app from Eastern Sheet Metal allows sheet metal contractors and installers, including HVAC engineers and contractors, to convert rectangular and flat-oval duct dimensions to round. It can also convert rectangular duct to flat oval.
The app is available on iOS and Android devices, and can also calculate air velocity, friction rate and friction loss for standard air when both volume flow rate and duct length are entered.
“Round is the most efficient duct shape for transporting air,” said Pat Brooks, general manager at Eastern Sheet Metal. “It has less surface area and weight, along with fewer joints, which significantly reduces the potential for leaks. In fact, round duct can easily be specified to meet SMACNA (Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National Association) Class 3 Leakage, even at 10-inch water gauge static pressures. Additionally, round duct is much easier to install.”
The app doesn’t require an internet connection in order to be used and is available for download by searching “equivalent round” in your device’s app store or under the Tools navigation bar at www.easternsheetmetal.com.
