Man killed in fall from scaffolding at Prudential Tower was fixing HVAC unit, union says

By Anthony G. Attrino | NJ Advance Media for NJ.com

The investigation into a sheet metal worker who was killed while making repairs to an HVAC unit at a building in Newark, New Jersey, is expected to take around six months, according to OSHA.

As reported by NJ.com, sheet metal worker Peter J. Millar of Millar Sheet Metal was inside a building when he fell from the fifth floor through an opening and was killed, according to Joseph Demark of Local Sheet Local 25 Sheet Metal Workers. From NJ.com:

“He was on stair scaffolding, replacing or repairing the HVAC system when somehow he fell 30 feet,” Demark said. The 20-story office building at 655 Broad Street in Newark opened in 2015.

Millar was the son of Peter Millar Sr., owner of Millar Sheet Metal in Kearny, according to public records. The younger Millar had more than 25 years of experience and was highly skilled in his trade, Demark said.

“He was a nice young man. Just a good person and I know that his family was proud of him,” Demark said.

MIller Sheet Metal has no history of OSHA violations.
