Spring is here and all the contracting companies are getting into gear for the upcoming summer season, which, depending on the day and the area of the country you’re in, seems to tease us by coming for a day or two, then reverting to spring.

This is a great time to get your maintenance agreement customers ready for summertime, but there are other customers that you don’t want to forget about when getting HVAC systems ready for the cooling season: your office employees and others every day at your very own shop.

There’s an old saying about the shoemaker’s children having no shoes and going barefoot. While it’s understandable to give first priority to your customers, make the time to take care of your building’s HVAC system, too. You don’t want to forget about your employees.

As an HVAC firm — a company that specializes in comfort — don’t your employees deserve to work in a building where the temperature and humidity is comfortable? If those conditions are too far to the extreme and cause discomfort, your workers may be less than their normal kind and patient selves when dealing with customers and/or coworkers.

In addition, we’ve probably all seen surveys and studies regarding when employees are too uncomfortable due to temperature and/or humidity, they are less productive. Another reason to take care of the air in your own building is in case any current or potential customers or clients that stop by your offices, expectedly or unexpectedly. Do you want them to feel too hot or too cold or clammy or dried out? That doesn’t reflect well on your business.

You probably want your CPA to have his financial house in order and able to get his own taxes in on time. Similarly, visitors to your location expect that the air in your office be fairly comfortable.

And don’t forget to be mindful of the IAQ in the building, too. Change the air filters and take care of whatever else is on your IAQ maintenance checklist.
