WASHINGTON, DC — Total privately-owned housing starts in September were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,843,000 units, a 13.3% jump from the revised August estimate of 1,627,000 and a 16.5% climb above the September 2001 rate of 1,582,000, according to the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Single-family housing starts in September 2002 rose even faster — increasing 18.2% to a rate of 1,477,000 units over the August figure of 1,250,000.
