AMCA revises publication on industrial-process, power-generation fans

AMCA
March 22, 2019

The Air Movement and Control Association (AMCA) International has revised AMCA Publication 802, Industrial Process/Power Generation Fans: Establishing Performance Using Laboratory Models.

The newly designated AMCA Publication 802-19 outlines methods used by manufacturers to determine the performance of full-size industrial-process and power-generation fans. These methods include:

• The prediction of fan ratings using a standard model’s existing base performance data; and

• The building and testing of a model of a proposed fan or an existing fan to verify fan performance.

AMCA Publication 802-19 provides detailed insight into variables that influence fan ratings and establishes rules to be used to convert performance from one fan to a geometrically similar fan. Additionally, it defines dimensional tolerances that must exist for two fans to be considered geometrically similar.

Changes to AMCA Publication 802 include:

• Updated terminology (fan total pressure vs. fan stagnation pressure, for example); and

• Updated I-P formulas consistent with ANSI/AMCA Standard 210/ASHRAE Standard 51, Laboratory Methods of Testing Fans for Certified Aerodynamic Performance Rating.

The cost of AMCA Publication 802-19 is $45 for members and $90 for non-members. To purchase, visit AMCA’s online store at www.amca.org/store.
