New York State announces renewable HVAC training sessions

IndustryNews
September 8, 2017

The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) is sponsoring a series of day-long continuing education credit trainings on renewable heating and cooling (geothermal) technology throughout the state. The trainings are designed for architects, engineers, building owners, facility managers, and students in relevant fields to learn more about geothermal heat pumps and the state’s rebate program. NYSERDA’s sponsorship includes discounts for students.

The heating and cooling of residential and commercial buildings is responsible for about one-third of the greenhouse gas emissions in New York. According to NYSERDA, increasing the use of geothermal systems will play a major role in achieving Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s clean energy goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions 40% by 2030. Earlier this year, NYSERDA announced the availability of $15 million in rebates for the installation of ground source heat pump systems for residences, businesses, and institutions.

The course is a comprehensive overview of what is needed to understand how geothermal heating and cooling might work for a given building. Topics include a geothermal design overview, variations in ground source heat pump ground loop systems, how to choose the right geothermal HVAC system, and evaluating the benefits of geothermal systems.

For those in need of continuing education credits, each session will provide five AIA, PDH, or BPI credits. Geothermal author and consultant Jay Egg will be the instructor at these sessions which will be held as follows:

September 13: Poughkeepsie

September 14: Albany

October 17: New York City

October 19: Farmingdale

November 14: Buffalo

November 16: Syracuse

The sessions are being sponsored by NYSERDA and NY-GEO. For more information or to register, go here.
