Emerson E360 Forum to focus on restaurant refrigeration, Internet of Things

IndustryNews
September 22, 2016

Emerson Climate Technologies will host its next E360 Forum in support of its E360 platform on October 12 at The Westin La Paloma in Tucson, AZ. This Forum will not only cover food retail and foodservice topics as in past forums, but it will also cover commercial AC topics such as energy efficiency and regulatory issues.

The E360 Forum will feature a keynote session from Joe Carbonara, editorial director, Foodservice Equipment and Supplies magazine, who will highlight aspects of the restaurant kitchen of the future. This session will cover the various elements at play in today’s foodservice industry that impact design, equipment selection and more while exploring key factors such as customer-facing technology and increasing labor costs.

Also during the general session, Dr. Rajan Rajendran, vice president of the system innovation center and sustainability for Emerson Climate Technologies, will provide a refrigerant and energy regulations update. He will cover a new class of alternative synthetic refrigerants that promises lower global warming potential, as well as the re-emergence of natural options such as propane and CO2.

Following the general session, the remainder of the afternoon will feature breakout sessions on a variety of relevant topics. Sessions are divided into three tracks — foodservice, food retail ,and commercial AC — to give attendees the opportunity to focus on issues and trends that are most applicable to them. Breakout sessions include:

• CO2 Systems: Trends, Benefits and ROI (food retail track) — Derek Gosselin, product manager, systems division, Hilllphoenix, will explore the trends in system architecture that are helping to meet regulations to reduce energy consumption and lower GWP refrigerants, including current options, trials and research in systems that utilize CO2 as a natural refrigerant and R-407A as a lower-GWP alternative.

• The Most Efficient Buildings of the Future (commercial AC track) — Dr. Michael Deru, manager of systems performance, commercial buildings research group, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, will cover the latest advancements to address energy efficiency, including innovative systems, renewable energy, and energy storage along with the biggest drivers in the push toward more energy-efficient buildings.

• How BMS, EMS, IoT and Insights Are Changing Retailer Operations (food retail track) — Ron Chapek, product manager, enterprise software, Emerson Climate Technologies, will lead a session on best practices for the retail grocery industry in utilizing BMS/EMS reporting, including how technology can improve operational, personnel, inventory, maintenance, and distribution efficiencies, giving retailers new opportunities to manage their businesses.

• How to Meet 2017/2020 Energy Regulations (foodservice track) — Ani Jayanth, foodservice marketing manager of Emerson Climate Technologies, will address the implications of the Department of Energy energy consumption regulations for walk-in coolers and freezers; reach-in, self-contained systems; and ice machines.
