LG Multi-V IV VRF systems meet seismic requirements in 50 states

IndustryNews
August 3, 2016

Multi-V IV VRF systems from LG Electronics have been certified to exceed California’s seismic building requirements. The systems are now certified in all 50 states.

With a seismic testing design acceleration parameter of SDS (g) = 2.95, these products exceed the maximum USGS defined SDS (g) = 2.50 for the contiguous USA, Alaska, and Hawaii, and secured seismic certification in accordance with a number of compliance codes. These codes include International Building Code (IBC) 2012, California Building Code (CBC) 2013, American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures ASCE 7-10, and the OSHPD Preapproval Procedure with shake table testing in accordance with ICC-ES AC 156 2012.

According to the company, with increased understanding of the dangers of seismic activity in the United States, compliance certification is more important than ever before certain building projects. States located near fault lines including California, Utah, and Kansas are taking the lead in codes and standards and requiring both new construction and retrofit buildings to be built to continue operation in a seismic emergency for safety reasons.

LG officials also said that by earning the OSHPD Special Seismic Certification, its Multi-V IV products can now be utilized in new construction or renovated construction of hospital building projects in California.

IBC certification also means that LG’s Multi-V IV products can be utilized in new construction or renovated construction of occupancy category IV building types having an Importance Factor 1.5 or greater, including hospitals; fire, rescue and police stations; emergency shelters; and power-generating stations. Typically, during seismic emergencies, buildings of this category must continue to operate and serve the public, and they need HVAC systems that can perform during emergencies.
