SOR acquires Smart Sensors Inc.

Industry News
October 8, 2013

SOR Controls Group has purchased Smart Sensors Inc. (SSi). The company says this will enable SOR® to strengthen its portfolio of temperature measurement solutions for the oil and gas, refining, chemical, and power generation markets.

“This acquisition is a strategic move to expand our continuous measurement offering in the temperature segment of the measurement and control industry. Temperature is the most widely measured process variable, and the addition of SSi gives us an ability to compete across the breadth of that segment,” said SOR President and CEO, Mike Waters. “SSi’s ability to quickly assess and respond to customer needs and provide a product that fits those needs in a relatively short period of time is consistent with SOR’s ability to provide engineered-to-order solutions with quick deliveries.”

Houston-based Smart Sensors was founded in 1995, and offers a line of temperature sensors and assemblies. Products include: thermocouples, RTD’s, thermowells, and temperature transmitters used in a wide range of industrial and OEM applications.

“We see tremendous value for our existing and future customers in this acquisition,” said Ted Johnson, SSi vice president of sales and marketing. “SOR will provide additional manufacturing, engineering, and operational resources that will allow us to meet and support our growth plans and provide a higher level of service and support to our customers. Both companies are known for providing high quality products with excellent customer service and support — both during and after the transaction.”
