The recipients of ASHRAE’s scholarship assistance include the following:

The Reuben Trane Scholarship for $10,000, awarded over two years, went to Richard Melo enrolled at the Wentworth Institute of Technology. The scholarship was established by the Trane Co. in memory of its founder.

The  Willis H. Carrier Scholarships went to Breeann Foran enrolled at Montana State University, and Nicholas Rekstad enrolled at Pennsylvania State University. The scholarship was established by the Carrier Corp. in memory of its founder, and awards $10,000 for one year.

The Lynn G. Bellenger Engineering Scholarship, a $5,000 award for one year, went to Tiffany Williams of North Carolina A&T State University. The scholarship, which is being awarded for the first time this year, recognizes a female undergraduate engineering student. It is named in memory of the Presidential Member Lynn G. Bellenger, ASHRAE’s first female president.

The Frank M. Coda Scholarship, which provides $5,000 for one year, was awarded to Travis Norris of East Carolina University. The scholarship was created in memory of ASHRAE’s former executive vice president, who served from 1981-2004.

The David C.J. Peters Scholarship, providing $5,000 for one year, was presented to Mei Yung Wong of Oklahoma State University. The scholarship is awarded to a third-year student in a four-year undergraduate mechanical engineering program or a fourth-year student in a five-year undergraduate mechanical engineering program at Pennsylvania State University, Virginia Tech, California State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas, Clemson University, North Carolina State University, University of Nebraska, Cal Poly State University, and University of Nevada. The scholarship was created by Southland Industries to honor Peters, an advocate of recruiting quality.

General scholarships of $5,000 for one year were presented to Mitchell Hoesing of South Dakota State University, and Peter Kohler at the University of North Carolina.

A memorial scholarship of $5,000 for one year was awarded to Nathan Stoltzfus at Ohio State University.

The following awards provide one-year $3,000 scholarships:

The Lynn G. Bellenger Engineering Technology Scholarship was presented to Sara Piekunka at Rochester Institute of Technology. The scholarship recognizes female engineering technology students and is named in memory of Presidential Member Bellenger. This is the first year that the scholarship is being awarded

The Region III Boggarm S. Setty Scholarship was awarded to Hunter Bachman enrolled at the University of Delaware. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate engineering student attending an institution within ASHRAE Region III, which covers Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. It is named after Boggram Setty, Fellow ASHRAE Life Member. 

The Duane Hanson Scholarship was awarded to Kim Rogers of Kettering University. The scholarship was established by Gayner Engineers and is named for the company’s former president.

The Alwin B. Newton Scholarship was given to Man Sze Chan at the University of Hong Kong. The scholarship is named for an industry pioneer and ASHRAE Fellow who was granted 219 patents.

The Henry Adams Scholarship was awarded to Mahmoud Mohammed enrolled at the University of Illinois. The scholarship was established by Henry Adams, Inc. in memory of its founder, a Charter Member and sixth president of ASHRAE’S predecessor society, ASHVE, established in 1899.

The Region VIII Scholarship was presented to Gaizka Lasa at University of Oklahoma. The scholarship is awarded to students attending schools within the geographic boundaries of ASHRAE Region VIII, which includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Mexico, and parts of Louisiana and Texas.

The Donald E. Nichols Scholarship was awarded to Anthony Taylor enrolled at Tennessee Technological University. The scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate engineering student attending Tennessee Technological University. It is named for a former ASHRAE vice president and graduate of Tennessee Technological University.  

The Bachelor of Engineering Technology Scholarship went to Yoginder Rana at Ferris State University.

The Associate of Engineering Technology Scholarship was given to Cody Bomers enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College.

The High School Senior Scholarship were presented to Elizabeth Lynch at Iowa State University, Jacquelyn Sommers at Kansas State University, Joshua Roper at the University of Wisconsin, and Kali Rosendo at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The scholarships were established in 2010 for high school seniors entering their freshman year of college in an engineering or engineering technology program.
