Boiler conductivity sensor

February 9, 2009

Mettler-Toledo Thornton's on-line Conductivity Sensor is designed to measure directly in the blowdown line without sample cooling, saving on installation and operating costs. It enables continuous automatic blowdown control, which minimizes corrosion and scaling to a greater extent than with manual measurement and control. The reduced need for boiler shutdown, cleaning, and repairs can pay for itself in months, according to the manufacturer. At the same time, continuous measurement and control conserves energy and treatment chemicals by eliminating excessive blowdown going to waste.

Able to operate well above conditions of conventional sensors, the Boiler Conductivity Sensor can directly measure samples up to 250 psig (17 bar) at 392 °F (200 °C). The Boiler Conductivity Sensor is used with the versatile Thornton M300 Transmitter which provides display, analog outputs and alarm relays plus on-off and PID control capability. It can also be used with the unique Thornton 770MAX Transmitter which accepts four sensor inputs in any combination of parameters including conductivity, pH, dissolved oxygen, flow, ORP, TOC, pressure and tank level, which are often used with boiler water treatment systems.
