UPPER MARLBORO, MD — According to the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Research Center, more and more homeowners are recognizing the benefits of “green buildings.”

“Green building refers to the resource-efficient design, construc-tion, and operation of a home,” said Liza Bowles, president of the NAHB Research Center, which promotes and supports green building programs throughout the U.S. “Green building represents an approach to building and marketing homes that highlights environmental quality, both inside and outside the home.”

Bowles points out that several manufacturers are beginning to offer consumers more energy-efficient products including photovoltaic (PV) roofing and solar water heaters.

NAHB publishes “A Guide to Developing Green Builder Programs.” The association also sponsors the National Green Building Conference, which will be held March 24-26, 2002, in Seattle, WA.
