MOUNT PROSPECT, Ill. — The ESCO Institute unveiled its Residential Heat Load Analyst training and certification program. The program, developed in cooperation with the Green Mechanical Council, will help simplify the task of teaching residential heat load calculations.

The course covers four main points: introduction to building heat transfer; building envelope analysis; windows and doors; and heat gain and loss calculations. Instruction is provided through a 500-slide PowerPoint presentation, complete with speaker’s notes and more.

ESCO Institute reports that determining the proper heating and cooling load for a structure is among the most important processes that can be completed by a technician or contractor when installing a new heating and air system. However, energy studies show that 72 percent of residential systems are improperly sized. A system that is too large or small can greatly impact not only the building occupant’s comfort and health, but also the energy consumption of the structure and equipment life.
