AHRI optimistic at Trump energy secretary pick
The Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute said it is looking forward to working with Rick Perry if the former Texas governor becomes part of the Trump administration.
President-elect Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Perry was his pick to be energy secretary, where he would be tasked with running the Energy Department and determining the direction of U.S. energy policy.
The institute, which represents most of the major manufacturers of HVAC market equipment, said that while it has had a good relationship with the DOE, it has had to content with ever more stringent efficiency standards on the equipment members make.
"We are hopeful that Perry's nomination signals a more balanced approach to the process under which HVACR and water heating equipment is regulated," said AHRI President and CEO Stephen Yurek. "The current regulatory process is 40 years old, and in need of significant reform. We welcome Governor Perry's nomination, and are looking forward to working with him and his team on regulatory reform and other issues of vital importance to our industry."
